Iconic Beauty’s restaurant to reopen in the fall after renovations

Montrealers will again be able to enjoy the signature Mish-Mash at Beauty’s before the end of the year.

The iconic Montreal restaurant closed on March 17 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, although it did send several care packages to front-line workers in April and May.

There were concerns about its future when the premises were boarded up in late spring. A June 21 post on the restaurant’s Facebook page read: “After 78 years we are updating our space! We will post updates on the reno.”

There have been no further Facebook updates but Elana Sckolnick, the granddaughter of the restaurant’s founder, the late Hymie Sckolnick, confirmed Tuesday that there is work going on inside the boarded premises.

“Everything has been slow because of the COVID,” she explained. “We had to wait for the construction workers to go back to work and then we were in the construction holiday. Now, there are regulations on how many workers can be on the site and how much distance they have to maintain, but the project is coming along.”
