LG, PoE Power Digital Remodel of The Sinclair in Fort Worth, Texas

Thanks to OLED, and digital signage technology from LG Business Solutions USA, The Sinclair in Fort Worth, Texas may be the first truly smart hotel in the U.S. and the first to run almost entirely on Power-over-Ethernet.

The 164-room hotel features 55-inch LG OLED 4K Ultra HD displays in each room and 15 65-inch LG OLED 4K Ultra HD Wallpaper displays in luxury suites and public areas. Farukh Aslam, Sinclair president and developer, says the hotel is the world’s first to run almost entirely on Power-over-Ethernet.

“My redesign of the illustrious Sinclair Hotel merges early 20th century styling with 21st century technologies to create a unique environment that exudes luxury,” he said in a statement.

Power-over-Ethernet technology is used throughout nearly the entire property. All guests rooms and common areas utilize the technology and there are very few 120-volt outlets or appliances, leading to an energy use reduction of at least 30%, Aslam says.

According to LG, the hotel is an early adopter of OLED display technology, bringing guests superior picture quality, brightness and color accuracy and the ability to perform basic maintenance and update procedures for all displays remotely.

Guests also have the ability to easily connect to their personal streaming accounts.

Specifically, the hotel uses LG’s Pro:idiom digital rights management technology to decrypt and securely deliver programming content from providers like HBO, Disney and ESPN. A set-top box also offers connection to other popular streaming services.

LG’s Pro:idiom software is also integrated into the 21-inch touchscreen Savvy SmartMirror from Electric Mirror, which are installed in each bathroom. These displays offer TV programming and custom hotel content like weather, restaurant menus, and a channel map.

In a statement, Electric Mirror President and CEO Jim Mischel said it’s the first time LG’s Pro:Idiom technology has been integrated in any smart mirror. The integration enables remote troubleshooting and resets of the Electric Mirror, he added.

“The difference between a traditional mirror TV and our smart mirror TV is that performing physical maintenance on the traditional version requires taking the whole mirror off the wall, which is a labor-intensive process,” Mischel says. “With Pro:Idiom integrated into the smart mirror, we now have a solution that is much simpler to install and service. It no longer needs to be removed from the wall. The service now happens through the software. Plus, it can even be powered through Power-over-Ethernet, which was necessary to meet The Sinclair’s specifications.”

In other areas of the hotel like public spaces, meeting rooms and at the on-site steakhouse, 65-inch LG OLED 4K Ultra HD Wallpaper displays are installed to dazzle guests, says Michael Kosla, hospitality vice president at LG Business Solutions USA.

“LG OLED wallpaper displays are perfect for these public spaces because of their wide viewing angles,” Kosla says. “Regardless of where you’re sitting in the room, the display turns any blank space into a new canvas for digital art or engaging content.”
