B&Q has launched a Distressed Coveralls Kit as a fun take on Ralph Lauren’s eye-wateringly expensive equivalent which made headlines last week.
Ralph Lauren’s full-length, dark denim boiler suit – the Paint-Splatter Coverall priced at £620 – is made from Japanese cotton satin and comes with utility pockets, a zip at the front, and allover paint splatters.
It caused much amusement on Twitter, with one social media user saying: ‘Seeing that Ralph Lauren are selling a boiler suit splatted in paint for £620, might start selling my work trousers, anyone interested pm me.’
Another added: ‘But unless there is a visible label, how will anyone know you were stupid enough to fork out £620 on something you could have bought for a fraction of that. They look identical to the set I’ve had for years.’
B&Q’s DIY kit consists of a navy-blue cotton coverall and two paint tester pots to create the look yourself, and priced at £16.60, it’s 97 per cent cheaper than the designer version.
The DIY kit from B&Q includes:
• a navy-blue cotton coverall (with elasticated waistband for comfort), £14
• tester pots of both white and orange emulsion paint, £1.30 each.
Customers can also choose to mix and match their paint colours, customising the design to suit their own wardrobe.
The new kit launches as B&Q has seen sales of navy coveralls treble in the past six weeks, meaning it could be a trend set to stay.
Coveralls are great for any painting, decorating and DIY job around the home, even gardening, as it helps to keep your garments mess-free. There’s been a real boom in redecorating this year thanks to lockdown, with paint sales increasing dramatically during the peak lockdown months of March and April. If you’re planning any home decorating projects, make sure you’re kitted out.
